Our Story

The Highland Center for Mental and Behavioral Health was built on a simple belief: therapy should feel human. Not overly clinical. Not cold. And never one-size-fits-all.

Our founder, Arzu Vig, started this practice after years of working where mental health, education, and innovation overlap — from healthcare consulting and special education advocacy to launching a community mental health organization that partnered with more than 80 schools and nonprofits.

Through that work, one thing became clear: the systems meant to help people often miss the people entirely. That realization led Arzu to create something different — a space that combines deep clinical training and research with genuine connection and culturally responsive care for individuals, couples, families, and groups while integrating a wide variety of modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Somatic Therapy, and more.

At The Highland Center for Mental and Behavioral Health, we work with a diverse range of clients of all age groups — high-functioning professionals, parents, students, blended families, and anyone trying to hold it all together while something inside feels off. Maybe you’re starting over. Maybe you’re masking. Or maybe you just need a place where someone finally gets it. We stand by being neurodiversity welcoming, gender affirming, BIPOC empowering, and visible and non-visible disability aware.

If therapy has ever felt like it wasn’t made with you in mind — you’re not alone, and you’re exactly who we built this space for.

Client Testimonials

I cannot recommend Arzu enough! She has been an incredible support for my husband and I, as we navigated some extremely challenging moments.

Arzu has a natural, genuine presence that instantly puts you at ease. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and empathetic listening make it easy to open up and feel truly heard. She has a deep understanding of a wide range of parenting and family struggles and provided insights and support for issues with our daughter that no other provider could.

Arzu has made a huge difference in our family’s life. She has restored our faith in the power of therapy and the lasting impact it can have. :)

Arzu is everything I've been looking for and has been an incredible support for my 11 year old daughter whose behavior at home was escalating and creating anxiety for the family. She relates to kids and families in a compassionate and non-judgmental way.  She has such a warm heart and spirit that shows through her  smile. Her attentiveness and careful listening of my daughter has helped us on our journey. She hears what’s there and what’s not there and encourages my kid to be honest and feel safe in her honesty.

Olga

I spent months searching for the right therapist and never made it far past the initial consults with anyone I found on Google, Psychology Today, and other directories until I met Arzu. From the very first session, I felt genuinely seen and understood. Arzu is kind, empathetic, and patient, but she also tells it like it is when needed, always in the most respectful and grounding way, which I truly appreciate.

My husband, who is South Asian, and I, who am of Latino descent, come to Arzu for parenting support. One of the things we value most is her ability to naturally incorporate both of our cultural backgrounds into the conversation. She doesn’t make assumptions; she listens, asks thoughtful questions, and helps us explore strategies that feel aligned with our values and our family.

We look forward to every session with her and always leave feeling calmer, clearer, and more connected. Finding Arzu has been a blessing for our family and I recommend her as a therapist, wholeheartedly. One of the best in the game.

New to the world of therapy?
Here's what to expect.

2. Get Oriented

In your early sessions, you and your provider take time to understand your story, clarify your goals, and agree on a meeting cadence that works for your needs and schedule. This stage helps you feel grounded in the process and sets the foundation for your personalized therapy plan.

3. Ongoing Reflection

As therapy continues, you and your provider explore challenges, build insight and skills, and regularly reflect on how things are progressing. Your timeline is unique, so the focus and goals can evolve as you grow and your needs shift.
